SMC³ adds direct-to-carrier APIs

SMC³ recently unveiled a new series of web-based APIs (short for “application programming interface”) for its technology platform or “hub” for third party logistics (3PL) providers, shippers and LTL carriers.

Those applications specifically include “execution” and “visibility” web-service solutions to provide event-based visibility to help streamline workflows by sending alerts when shipments require action or attention, SMC³ said.

Delivered through the secure SMC³ cloud, they offer “unrivaled speed and computing power,” the company emphasized, and when direct-to-carrier APIs are combined with analytical APIs such as SMC³’s RateWare XL and CarrierConnect XL, its technology “hub” becomes a “one-stop shop” for transportation technology needs, noted David Knight, SMC³’s chief information officer and senior vice president of product development, in a statement.

“Real-time connectivity of APIs is only the first step,” he said, noting that this latest release of APIs also added status, dispatch and imaging capabilities to the SMC³ platform.

“With both high-horsepower analytical APIs and transactional execution and visibility APIs, we can empower customers with solutions tailored to their specific transportation operating environment,” Knight noted.
