Western Star Truck Sales has announced that the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine is now available on its line of trucks

Western Star Truck Sales has announced that the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine is now available on its line of trucks. According to Western Star, the DD15 will offer its vocational market segments improved fuel economy, horsepower and torque performance.

The DD15 improves fuel economy up to 5% from the Series 60 due to its turbo compounding technology and Amplified Common Rail Fuel System (ACRS), Western Star said. Turbo compounding, available only on the DD15, turns wasted exhaust gas into useable power without sacrificing fuel economy, the company added.

Available in output and torque variants from 455 hp to 560 hp and 1,550 to 1,850 lb-ft., the DD15 meets 2007 EPA regulations, and according to the company, the addition of BlueTec SCR technology will prepare the engine to meet 2010 standards as well.

Western Star has also announced the introduction of a new line of stainless steel accessories and a day cab conversion kit for Stratosphere sleepers.

The stainless steel accessories feature more than 300 mirror-finish items etched with Western Star logos, using the highest grade of non-magnetic steel and containing corrosion-resistant material to protect against anti-icing agents found on many roads, the company said.

The day cab conversion kit includes a new overhead console, roof cap with reinforcements, headliner, back wall and trim panel, cantrails and glass for the rear window. According to Western Star, all trim components are engineered to provide the same look, feel and performance as a factory-built day cab.
